During the ceremony, Usher will also receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Emory University.

“I have spent my life following my spark — my passion — and trying to support young people as they find and follow their own passions,” Usher said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to speak to these incredible Emory students as they graduate and prepare to make their mark on the world.”

Emory President Gregory L. Fenves added: “There are few artists in the history of popular music who have innovated as ceaselessly as Usher. Through acclaimed albums, era-defining songs, global tours and live performances that showcase his peerless talent as a singer, songwriter and dancer, Usher has connected profoundly with generations of fans, building a dedicated audience that continues to grow.”

Usher’s New Look non-profit helps underprivileged teens find their passions and finish their education. The organization’s leadership program has partnered with Emory University’s Goizueta Business School, which is an intensive 400-hour program focused on preparing high school students for college.

According to New Look, 100 percent of Leadership Academy participants graduate high school, while 98 percent go on to college.

“New Look fills a critical need by stepping up to help students realize their potential,” Fenves continued. “Emory University has been proud to partner with this incredible organization over the years.”

It won’t be Usher’s first rodeo when it comes to honorary degrees or commencement speeches. The Grammy-winning singer received an honorary doctorate and delivered the commencement address at the Berklee School of Music in Boston for the class of 2023.
