Released Feb. 14 on the deluxe version of Sabrina Carpenter’s album Short n’ Sweet, the remix of her originally solo smash “Please Please Please” — adding Dolly Parton in a featured role — debuts on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart (dated March 1).
The remix opens at No. 17 on the survey after it drew 6.3 million official U.S. streams and sold 2,000 downloads in its first week, according to Luminate. The update, which includes new instrumentation more in line with traditional country, as well as airplay-friendly edited lyrics, has also been serviced to country radio.
The original “Please Please Please” notched a week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 last June, becoming Carpenter’s first leader on the list. It also crowned the Pop Airplay chart.
As Carpenter charts her first Hot Country Songs hit, Parton has now reached the top 20 twice this decade — a feat she hadn’t achieved since the 1990s. Last April, she hit No. 12 with “Tyrant,” with Beyoncé, from the latter’s album Cowboy Carter. With that track, Parton made history by scoring a top 20 entry in a record-extending seventh decade, dating to her first in 1967, the No. 17-peaking “Something Fishy.”
Parton now boasts 76 career top 20 Hot Country Songs hits, with eight in the ‘60s; 34 in the ‘70s; 27 in the ‘80s; three in the ‘90s; one each in the 2000s and ‘10s; and now two in the ‘20s.
As previously reported, Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet hits No. 1 for the first time on the Top Album Sales chart, sparked by its new deluxe version.
In a behind-the-scenes clip from the shoot of the official video for the “Please Please Please” remix, posted to Parton’s official TikTok account Feb. 19, Carpenter beamed of her collaboration with the icon, “We’re little, we’re blonde and we love each other.”
